The University of Scranton Small Business Development Center is proud to announce the opening of a new small business in Jessup, Pennsylvania.
Rebecca Kobesky and partner, Artisan Builder John Rowlands, were displaced workers in Northeastern Pennsylvania who decided to change their circumstances by starting a contracting business. John had already accumulated over 14 years of experience in both residential and commercial work and was well respected for his craft. Rebecca, the daughter of a small business owner and a woman who possesses strong business sense of her own, was confident that she could market his skills to the public.
Well aware of the amount of work that would be required but determined to succeed, Rebecca began to research the process of starting a company and found a reference to Small Business Development Centers in a library book. Intrigued, she sought out additional information on her local SBDC and discovered that a First Step seminar was being held in Lackawanna County. Soon after attending this workshop at The University of Scranton, Rebecca met with an SBDC consultant, who helped her to finalize a business plan, register the business, obtain licensure, and ensure business continuity by developing a diverse line of services and devising a seasonal marketing strategy. Within just three months, appointments were being set.
