#BusinessTipTuesday – Plan Ahead

Tuesday April 4th is Vitamin C Day. As we all know many people take Vitamin C to help boost their immune system and fight off sickness. So for this week’s #BusinessTip Tuesday we use Vitamin C Day as a great reminder for small business owners to plan ahead for when they get sick.

The University of Scranton SBDC works with these small business owners on Business Disruption and Continuity Planning. This allows them to understand the importance of cross-training their employees so they can take on the job responsibilities of the business owner or an employee who leaves or may be out of work for an extended period of time due to illness.

However, sometimes an employee may have specialized skills that make finding a replacement difficult. It can be a long and drawn out process. In those cases, a business might want to look into key employee insurance, which will help cover expenses associated with replacing that key employee if they are out of work for a long time.

Just like taking Vitamin C is planning ahead to fight-off illness, taking the necessary steps to plan ahead for business disruptions is also key, because once something happens it’s too late.
