The first Friday of every October is observed as National Manufacturing Day, and this year’s falls on Friday, October 5th. National Manufacturing Day is a celebration of modern manufacturing meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers and to celebrate those people who proudly produce America’s goods and services. In celebration of this event, today’s #BusinessTipTuesday is to model your business to be “Made in America”.
Studies show that Americans of all ages, political parties, and genders care about buying and supporting American-made companies and products. Many businesses today are joining the “Made in America” movement to bring manufacturing jobs back to America. If your business is in the retail or manufacturing industry, selling and producing American-made goods is one of the best ways to attract customers. Although production in China tends to be cheaper and more beneficial to your bottom line in the short run, choosing to go with American manufacturers instead could help increase your sales in the long run.
Be sure to market yourself as a supporter of this movement. Proudly announce on your business’s storefront or online webpage that your products are American-made. “Made in America” nowadays does not necessarily mean that it was only produced using American workers on American soil, so it’s important to know exactly what components were or were not American-made in case customers are curious. Customers care far more if the product was manufactured in the U.S. than if it was simply designed by an American, so make sure you know your products. One of the ways to spread the word about your business is to share your story wherever there’s an audience. You are an American entrepreneur who wants to give back to your community and country by supporting American manufacturers. Tell people why it’s important to you on a personal level that you do this, and customers will feel more connected which will increase the chances of them frequenting your business.
If your business is comprised of manufacturing in any aspect, this Friday is a great day to consider hosting an event of some kind to draw attention to your business. If you don’t have the means or time to host anything, then use the opportunity to promote yourself and your business on social media. When you support American-made products you’re supporting other American entrepreneurs like yourself who are truly making America great.
