The University of Scranton Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is proud to announce the opening of another local business, JJ Bub’s Barbecue, located in Jefferson Township, Pennsylvania. As a result of SBA funding support from the Jobs Act, the SBDC was able to assist Kim and Jim Shorten launch their authentic Kansas City barbecue business. JJ Bub’s Barbecue specializes in pork, chicken, and beef brisket barbecue.
They attended the First Step, Starting Your Business workshop as well as the ServSafe Food Handler Certification class at the University of Scranton. The SBDC conducted research on their behalf and guided them through the regulations required in starting a food business.
JJ Bub’s Barbecue launched their barbecue business on the first day of the 2013 season of the Cooperative Farmers’ Market of Scranton. They smoke and serve nearby at Jesse’s Place, Scranton, PA. As savvy users of social media, they actively promote their business on Facebook.
