#BusinessTipTuesday – Read a Book Day

For this week’s #BusinessTipTuesday, we are recognizing Read a Book Day which is celebrated on September 6th. The first celebration of Read a Book day was sometime around eight years ago and was mostly likely created by a librarian. This day encourages everyone to read a book, either by yourself, with your children, or at a book club with a group of friends. Whether you are reading out of a print book or on your tablet, take the time this week to sit back, relax and read a good book!

For small business owners, reading a book may usually mean doing research for their business. Doing research is so very important when it comes to starting a business and also maintaining it. Research on topics such as customers, finances, competitors, marketing, and more will help to ensure that you are making the right choice and smart decisions. Without research you would be diving in completely unaware of what works and what does not, which could definitely cause problems for your business.

There are all different types of research; whether you are reading a book with new information, searching online for current studies, using business-specific databases, or viewing blogs and articles you are learning more and becoming aware of the facts. Research can also be completed by conducting surveys, asking experts for advice, and taking classes. Regardless of the way you conduct your research make sure you are understanding what is being explained and note questions as you come across them. The tools you have will now be able to be applied it to your business, whether it is just starting or you are adding something new.

Another great way for entrepreneurs to spend Read a Book Day would be to read books by fellow entrepreneurs or life coaches. This can be used as a time to relax but will also be helpful to learn from other people’s experiences. The tips and tricks that fellow businesspersons have could end up helping you with your business.
